BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE

LOCATION

Beausejour is one of the newer of Le mans campsites and as a result is the furthest away from the main grandstand area - approximately a 35 minute walk away. However, its location has advantages in terms of its proximity to the public viewing area at the entrance to the Porsche Curves, one of the fastest points of the circuit.

Beasuejour is located in the middle of the circuit and is accessed during race weekend via a tunnel passing under the circuit at the Virage du Pont.

It is the largest campsite and also one of the most relaxed in terms of atmosphere - there are areas of frenetic activity, loud music and fireworks but it is also possible to find peaceful areas; this is not the case with some of the other campsites.

For driving directions to Beausejour campsite, please see our driving page.

On the map blow, Beausejour is high-lighted by a red box. For a more detailed map click here.

FACILITIES

Beausejour has toilet and shower blocks spread across the campsite at regular intervals. These are the better quality 'portakabin' units that are brought in just for race week and a manned by the obligatory crew of old women hovering over a tray of Euros & Cents and offering you 2 square inches of toilet tissue (remember to take your own!).

These facilities are kept clean and as they are modern have a distinct advantage over some of the purpose-built facilities the were built in the 1950's and have received little attention since.

There are stanpipes across the site - very useful for filling your paddling pool!

Beausejour does NOT have electrical hook-up points.

Your camping ticket entitles you to a space of 7m by 5m - plenty of room for a car and tent.

Your pitch is allocated on arrival. sometimes an ACO official will be on hand to direct you to the next free pitch, however, on many occasions you will not be supervised and can allocate your own space.

If travelling as a group, arrange to arrive at the same time to ensure that you are located together on the campsite.

STREET CRED

Street Cred, Snob Factor, kudos whatever term you want to apply, the Le mans forums and web-sites infer a pecking order to the campsites with Beausejour almost universally positioned low down (even when this ranking is based on no direct experience).

It is pleasing to see independent observers talking of Beausejour in increasingly better tones not least as it has one thing that no other site has...Speed Chills!

Have a look at sites such as beermountain for more information.

SUMMARY

Your campsite decision will be based on many factors; our experience is that Beausejour has the following strengths -

  • it is large - you will have plenty of room to find the pitch you want

  • it has good clean facilities (toilets & hot showers) - they are brought in just for race week and are kept clean

  • it is close to a good viewing area at the Porsche Curves where you see the cars outside of the highly lit grandstand areas

  • it has Speed Chills located at its South Western edge.

and the following weaknesses -

  • it is the most remote camp-site from the Tribunes (the start/finish grandstands, merchandise stalls and trackside eateries

  • it is not an allocated pitch site and does not have power - if this is a necessity, try Houx.
