LE MANS 2004
12th - 13th June
Well. here's the Speed Chills feedback pretty much warts
and all - nothing added and only personal details taken away. The only
liberty we have taken is to add some comments.
I think you've heard a lot from my group
so I'll just really echo their 'demands'. We're organising next year
and are really keen to continue the association with Speed Chills, as
you know.
Had a great night from what I can
remember of it on Sunday night, watching the grand prix and lobbing
some boules around - it gets hazy after that!
Bits and bobs I liked or want or
whatever :
Thanks SO SO much for the toilet (when
it worked!).
Please refuse to serve me after about 6
pints or substitute for Kaliber. Hog roast is brilliant idea and I
enjoyed watching the F1 from the long tables How about some sort of Le
Mans packs - radios (which we didn't have - who won the race?),
earplugs, barbies, etc etc. We'd never have to leave Beausejour.....
;-). Also, an onsite therapy centre for my daily hangover - or just
some alka seltzer.
So cheers again, take it easy, see you
next year
Speed Chills - ladies were allowed to
use the toilet. For 2005 there will be toilets for all thus removing
any gender bias!
Our
first visit on the Saturday morning was heaven as we received as very
prompt, very delicious cooked breakfast. We all agreed that it
'hit the spot' and we were very encouraged. We were also pleased
to hear that you were going to supply breakfasts on the Monday morning
as we always get up quite early, pack up and leave, and then grab a
sandwich and a coffee en route.
However, we were a
bit disappointed to find you'd run out of breakfasts on the Sunday
morning, and from this we concluded Monday's would also be off.
We visited again
after the race for BBQ'd pork, beer and watching the GP / football /
Top Gear / p0rn! Had a blast, got very drunk and thoroughly enjoyed
the evening.
Having a facility
like that without having to jump in the car (we usually go into LM
after the 24 Hour to watch the GP) meant we could all drink and relax.
Overall I thought it
was a very good idea and respect to you all for having the courage to
do it.
Well done.
Speed Chills -
food availability times will be far better publicised for 2005 and
there will be the 'departure' breakfast on the Monday morning. Also,
never conclude - ask and we will do our best to help!
Some thoughts for
2005 - toilets and showers, Speedchills camping area in field on other
side of track, another beer(s) (thought what you had was good but
perhaps a real ale or something too), spirits, proper cutlery (lost
count of number of forks Neil in our group broke), include toast with
the breakfast (perhaps fried), didn't ask over the w/e but somewhere
where we could freeze camping cool blocks over night.
Quality and
Quantity of food was spot on (except for baguette and butter pudding -
stuffed !!!!!!).
Admired the
relentless efforts with the screen, hopefully you can find something a
bit brighter next year - if only to give yourselves a few more hours
to do the Le Mans thing (borrow one of those from the track !!!, comes
on a handy artic rig)
Overall a great set
up for the first year, thanks for your hard work - perhaps care needed
with sizing for next year, don't go too big or the exclusive benefits
will not be realised
Speed Chills -
toilets, real cutlery & (fingers-crossed!) our own ale for 2005.
Screen for 2005 will be indoors.
Thanks I had a great
time.
Maybe some more
tables and chairs next time would be good.
Guys you laid on a
great event - friendly people - good service what more could we ask
for.... maybe England winning the football.
Thanks for a good
night and look forward to seeing you with even greater numbers next
year.
Le Mans was an epic
trip for us this year. 6 days of thoroughly immature behaviour
involving beer, motor cars and at one point, running away from police
and marshals through a very dark wood....
Any way, Speed
Chills -
Beer: Cold. Very
Good.
Breakfast: Very
Good.
Location and Seating
arrangements: Very good.
Toilet Facilities:
Rubbish. There wasn't one was there? Seriously, A nice clean private
loo and maybe a shower would be a REAL bonus, and definitely a 'hook'
to get people signed up.
Big screen: Bit
tricky to see but wasn't a problem. We were drunk anyway.
Food: Was great. The
only thing we thought is that in addition to the 2 or 3 meals
available in the evening, some simple snacks would be nice. Chips, Hot
Dogs, Burgers, for those 'in between meal' moments.
All in all though,
well done. Hope you do it again next year, we'd sign up again.
Hi guys - Speed
Chills really helped make my first LM trip a most enjoyable one,
you guys were great, and I sincerely hope you are back next year,
bigger and better. You will be a major factor in whether the gang
camp at Beausejour again!
Farmhouse was
great, as was the food and drink.
Comments/suggestions
for next year - and these are not criticisms, would happily return
if nothing changed from this year -
Lager could have
been a bit colder - any chance of some bitter and/or Guinness as
well?
Bit more choice at
breakfast - not just full English but bacon/sausage sarnies,
scrambled/poached eggs etc.
Toilet facilities
for the gents.
Electric shock game
to be hard-wired to the mains supply.
Set up large screen
so that can be viewed better in daylight.
Also, the idea you
mentioned of getting your own campsite area, with private
toilet/shower facilities would be absolutely great, but failing
that, we will just camp very near you next year.
We had a
marvellous time thanks in no small part to you guys and your
tolerance.
Overall - V.
Friendly, very good value.
Need some loos, if
you had your own section of the campsite so we could be closer that
would have been brilliant
I wanted to say
thank you for the gorgeous breakfasts, cold beer and the to die for
hog roast! I thought you all did a most fantastic job, my only small
piece of feedback is that I need a big mug of coffee in the
mornings... the plastic beakers didn't cut it.... can I bring my own
mug next year?
Look forward to
seeing you in 2005
Speed Chills -
bigger cups in 2005 - or bring your
own 'bucket'!
I would just like to
say thank you very much to all the Speed Chills group who did an
excellent job. It certainly enhanced the whole Le Mans experience for
me. The food was very good indeed - it was great to have a cooked
breakfast that would not have been out of place in a quality hotel! On
top of that the team were just a nice bunch and we got on really well.
The location was
good for people like us staying on the nearest campsite, but next year
we may revert to Tertre Rouge or another nearer the centre of the
track. That is in no way a reflection on you, it's just that we felt a
bit distant from the action. The biggest improvement you could make
would be to add a decent toilet, but I don't think you need to spend
too much and make a shower block, as the campsite showers were not bad
at all this year! If you were to open up the field for members to camp
then that would be a different matter and you would need more
extensive facilities.
I did have another
idea while I was there, revolving around the fact that the site is
quite a distance from much of the action. Although there is a courtesy
bus laid on from the campsite which takes you towards the centre, it
was a bit limited and didn't run at all on the Friday. I wondered if
you might be able to run a minibus, say to the drivers parade in the
town and to points around the track during racing, which of course
would then return to Speed Chills for food and drinks afterwards!
Thank you for
entertaining us at Le Mans the other weekend. Speed Chills provided a
great retreat from the madding crowd, and the company was good!
I must say, it
really was quite a walk from Tertre Rouge though - proving that the
north / south divide, as Neil suggested, is well and truly alive.
My colleague and I
will have to decide whether we want to make the hour's walk each way
again next year.
The only enhancement
I would suggest is letting us know in advance when food is likely to
be available (probably particularly relevant to those coming some
distance), just so we know whether to eat before visiting or whether
to look forward to something when we get to you. A very minor point.
Good luck for the
future - I hope we will be back!
Firstly, thank you
for your efforts in making what was a blindin' weekend.
I can think of lots
of things that need improvement (only joking), the main two were -
- England lost to
France so please buy a few more Wayne Roonies, or better match
officials. And
- Most of the other
members had S2000's or TVR's. I don't have one of those, so if you
could sort one out for me that would be appreciated. In red please.
And it'll need a cup holder that fits a beer can too.
The only thing I can
think of to make the place look a bit classier (given the budget)
would be to buy Neil a razor. That 'Pescarolo' look only works for so
long.
Once again, thanks
for you effort, and please keep me posted on your next extravaganza.
We didn't in the end
use the facilities as much as we expected - there just didn't seem to
be any 'spare' time and even from the front part of Beausejour
campsite it took 10mins or so to walk up to your house though we did
make it up a few times.
One thing you could
certainly improve on from a punter's point of view would be to have
food available from early in the morning until late at night. If
that's not possible you need to let people know what's cooking when -
though breakfast all day would be good :-) We did turn up for a late
breakfast early lunch on the Saturday and there just wasn't any food
on.
Please can you send
me my membership money back. When I signed up I'm sure I specified
that I wanted England to win the football. :-)
But seriously,
thanks for the great breakfasts and the cold beer. Hopefully I'll see
you there again next year.
Hope you and your
crew all got home without mishap and with your sanity intact!
I think you've
definitely got some repeat business on your hands there from me & my
lot at least, they were well impressed with the set-up.
Guys, we thought it
was worth a punt and we're right behind the idea but it didn't work
for us this year.
The farmhouse is a
great asset and the beer was fine and cold but it was much further
than we discussed from Maison Blanche (there's a new wall up that
means you can only leave via the main entrance) and further into
Beausejour.
If we hadn't driven
we wouldn't have come at all. The TV was all but invisible.
Nobody I spoke to on
our team enjoyed the food and on the Sunday night you appeared to be
taking orders randomly and distributing food in the same way. Six of
us ordered at seven o'clock and at 8.30 the hog had run out and five
of us were still sitting there unfed. You did turn out steaks as a
replacement, I enjoyed mine but the other four all left theirs and we
had to leave in search of dinner.
I'm afraid there
won't be any of our group at Speed Chills next year.
Speed Chills -
good honest feedback! We're really
sorry that it didn't work out for the group and thank you for 'taking
a punt' in 2004. We can't be held responsible for the ACO building a
wall though ;-)
I think our feedback
on Speed Chills is that is was very good, awesome in fact.
We used Speed Chills
to eat breakfast, often dinner too, as well as having plenty of cold
beer and the odd Curly Wurly!
Your breakfasts were
very good, and we never had to wait more than 5 or 10 minutes -
incredible service! The hog roast was also great, but can you buy a
bigger pig next year!
This was my first
time to Le Mans, and one of the deciding factors in going again next
year was the service we got from Speed Chills. Next year we'll
probably eat more (is that possible? :) ) at Speed Chills, and
certainly drink more.
Next year would be
great if you had a camping area with it's own toilets and shower
block? Certainly a dedicated camping area would be very good.
So next year... if
you're there, we'll definitely be there. We may even buy you a beer or
two.
Friendly good value for money respite from the chaos, crowds and dust
of the track. A few more seats were needed Sun night and toilets would
have been an added attraction. Probably see you in the future.
We all thoroughly
enjoyed our first 'Le Mans experience' and will be making more trips
in the future.
We all thought that
SPEED CHILLS was the icing on the cake.
It gave us a
little oasis of quiet and good food amongst a sea of madness and
beefburgers!
One or two thoughts
for improving -
Toilet and shower
would be appreciated
The big screen was
difficult to see. If the footie wasn't on, I don't think it is
necessary because the coverage of the race was poor. A 'quiet'
camping/parking area for club members.
Overall, for our
first visit and your first attempt, it was excellent - keep up the
good work!
Please reserve us
places for next year!
Sorry it has taken a
while for my feedback but I have just been reading your write up of
this years LM and it prompted me to write.
Overall big thanks
for your efforts as the whole thing was great. Could have maybe done
with a pisser, but when in France do as the French and if I’m honest I
think the field or ditch opposite were probably nicer than a portaloo
anyway, so forget that!!
Urm, you did run out
of fags, but then so did I so can’t complain about that.
Booze was nice, as
was the full English in the morning.
Overall a good job
IMHO, and I will be joining again next year should we all be in the
same place. Oh yeah, I didn’t say, the location was superb, spitting
distance to my tent.
Pretty rubbish
feedback really, but at least it’s positive!!
Quick feedback
follow up, just been having another flick through your site, and I
have thought, get me to re-do your web site, and you will be flying.
It seems to be the
weakest part of your whole set up.
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR FEEDBACK - YOU'RE IMPROVING THE SHOW FOR
EVERYONE!
